Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA)
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is required for use of Totem and is one of the most effective ways to protect your account and data. Totem currently supports authenticator app-based MFA tokens. MFA is set up during account creation. To set up MFA:
- Select the Totem invitation link you received via email.
- Create your account and proceed to the Set up authenticator app page.

- Using your preferred MFA authenticator app (e.g., DUO, Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, your password manager, etc.), scan the QR code present on the screen. If the QR code scan doesn’t work, you may also select Show secret key and manually enter the secret key.
- Upon successfully scanning the QR code or manually entering the secret key, your authenticator app will display a rotating six-digit code. This code refreshes approximately every 30 seconds. Copy or manually enter the code into the Enter code field and select Sign in.
- If the code is correct, Totem will accept the sign in request and proceed to the passkey setup page. If the code is not accepted, check your authenticator app to see if the code has changed.
Important notes
If you need to reset your MFA token after you have already created your account, please contact support.
